The Renault Plans For The Next Years

By Andrew R. Ford

Renault selected Tavares Carlos as Operational Director, and the upcoming plans of the business for the next years were announced with this occasion. Their aim is to make Renault an exceptionally strong brand in Europe and in America as well as have a strong presence in China in the SUV category.

Renault is also assertively adding eco-friendly technology to their plants, like solar panels attached to the roofs at their French factories. This project has become one of the greatest in the auto industry: more than 450 000 square meters will be covered, having a capacity of 60 MW (the equivalent of a medium consumption of a city with 20 000 inhabitants).

The project will begin in June and will be concluded in February of next year. Their aim is to lessen the impact of pollution and save on electrical costs. A similar endeavor was launched by Seat that already has a roof of this kind on the Spanish factories.

Renault is also working to mend their image concerning industrial espionage. Renault is making every effort to become an impressive brand for the general public and do their best to offer high end cars. The espionage scandal has caused some problems for their image yet it's only part of their challenges. The top brass at Renault also admits to outdated designs and unhip image.

Once Renault brought Laurens van den Acker in as a principal designer, sweeping changes were observed in the new concepts of Renault. An instance of this is going to be the next generation Clio with its state of the art electronics and enhanced body and engine.

Moreover, Renault sold 150 000 cars of medium and superior class in 2005 and the sales from last year hardly got over 100 000. The new line of Renault cars are not expected to hit the market before the 2014-15 season, they must do their best to exploit those cars that sell well in their current line. The French media declare that Tavares must make an effort to equilibrate the two partners of the French alliance, as Renault sold 2.6 million cars last year, while Nissan sold more than 4 million.

Another aspect that Renault is looking to resolve is their lack of any presence in the Chinese market as they look to establish themselves in 2013 to 2016. And also, Renault does not enjoy any presence in the United States whatsoever. While no one is sure if Renault plans to revisit the US market, they are looking to establish more of a presence in Russia and Brazil. As for the Indian market, they have been struggling to some degree but continue to produce new cars that should appeal to Indian consumers.

In the long run, as Renault looks to grow sales by 400,000 units, they will need to continue improving and innovating their current line of cars.
