This Diablo 3 Monk Guide is meant to provide gamers with a sense of the new abilities, skills, pros and cons of the monk class when leveling throughout the world of Diablo 3.
The monk is know for his or her mastery of both mind and body. Only after many years of training in the spiritual and martial arts do they leave the monastery and enter into battle to rid the land of evil.
During combat, monks can call on their many attacks to quickly lay waste to large and small groups of enemies. While their single target damage is extremely impressive, their AOE attacks are nothing to sneeze at. While famous for their deadly fists and feet, monks will also be able to use a pretty large array of weapons to defeat their foes.
The monk has access to a vast array of martial abilities, which are amplified in their power and efficiency when used in quick succession. Certainly, the monk's predisposition to make use of the combo experience bonuses available in Diablo 3 will be of great benefit to fast monk leveling throughout the game.
Spirit is the monk's main resource and is generated from deep within the monk himself. It is said to be the product of years of focused training and spiritual discipline.
While the monk can certainly use his hands and feet as deadly weapons, that doesn't mean that he opts to avoid even more powerful weaponry in battle. Some of their signature weapons include the bo staff, also called a daibo, the regular fighting staff, and the katar. The katar is basically a fist weapon with a sharp blade on the end used for punching and impaling opponents.
Monks don't have armor quite as strong as some more sturdy melee classes, namely the barbarian. However, at higher levels monks are in fact able to wear some fairly decorative and protective items which, while not as strong as that of the barbarian, certainly do the job of protecting him in battle.
Monks also have abilities that benefit not only themselves but other members of their party as well. These new abilities are called mantras and cost 25 spirit each time they are cast. The mantras provide a wide range of abilities. Some mantras increase damage, others increase dodge and still others give a bonus to life regeneration.
The monk is a very well-rounded class with the ability to do great damage as well as to heal themselves and their friends. I would say this class is certainly worth some serious consideration when choosing which character to level first in Diablo 3!
