New Chinese concepts from Beijing auto show

By Stella McAlister

The country of China did not seem to be hit too badly by the world crisis and its customers are getting access to the best automobiles. Beijing show 2012 that opened in the end of April is becoming the leading Asian auto show. Some of these cars can only be seen in one copy while others are already actively sold in many countries.

It is a well-known fact that many Korean and Japanese cars are actually assembled in China. Despite this fact the quality of Chinese own cars remains questionable. The situation only started to change in high tech innovations that China could offer to the world automakers.

Batteries remain the most problematic part of modern electric cars. Currently available batteries are way too heavy and often require replacement. BYD has presented a new concept car Qin that is an electric-gasoline hybrid.

BYD Qin utilizes a light, cheap and long-lasting battery that survive ten years of daily charges. Despite all these advantages BYD Qin can make only 50 kilometers on one charge.

That is why BYD Qin is also equipped with 1.5 liter gasoline engine that can re-charge the battery. According to BYD representatives Qin can make up to 100 kilometers on 2 liters of gas.

The funniest part of BYD Qin is a small android that appears as the driver pushes the Start button. The robot makes faces and is connected to the Internet. She will inform the driver about changes in weather and traffic. Interestingly enough, Daimler has discussed the possibility of making a joint car with BYD. It will have the German frame and safety measures and Chinese battery.

Ford presented in Beijing a tiny crossover Ford EcoSport made on Fiesta frame. The model was initially offered in Brazil but will sell around the world. The car has a three-cylinder engine that takes less than 5 liters of gas per 100 kilometers.

This class - mini crossovers - becomes increasingly popular with young customers. A British brand MG that was recently purchased by Chinese has offered a mini-crossover Icon that was the top choice on Beijing auto show.

Super expensive car makers are offering heavy off-road cars including Bentley, Maserati and now Lamborghini. Lamborghini Urus is a new off-road truck that resembles typical Lamborghini car.

This sporty jeep will be powered by 600-powerhorse engine which is the most powerful in jeep class. However, Mercedes G-class is even more powerful with its 612 horses. A very few people can think of this new Cube worth as much as 300 thousand dollars.

It seems that Beijing auto show follows the world trend with exclusive cars becoming even more expensive. In addition, a common trend is high demand for mini-crossovers and gradual improvement of Chinese autos.
