in Public Health Programs

By Derik Odom

The masters for public health is offered by a good number of schools within the state at the moment. A lot of these are Masters in Public Health programs in community health/preventive medicine and community health education. When looking through a selection of colleges offering the degree, make sure that the one you choose has been accredited by the CEPH.

What is the meaning of "CEPH"? What are the benefits of attending an accredited public health graduate school/program? The types of programs the CEPH or Council on Education for Public Health accredits are indicated in its full name.

Accreditation is vital for students of these programs. It is standard practice for academies to attain accreditation by ensuring that every last one of their programs is in keeping with the accrediting body's standards. It is necessary to inquire at the academy if you are interested in a higher-level course and are not sure if theirs has been accredited.

Keep in mind that different accrediting bodies and accreditations exist. It is possible to possess one without the other, as one covers general subjects and the other specialized ones. Regional accreditation is concerned with a more general view of the body to be accredited.

The concentrated nature of the CEPH's accreditation makes it an excellent way to tell just how good the preparation in a program is. It shall be observed that other accrediting bodies exist for specific fields. When it comes to the public health field, the CEPH is the body to turn to if the academy's authorities wish their programs to be accredited.

There are varying prerequisites for accreditation from the CEPH, and it all depends on whether the subject of evaluation is a university or a program. Obviously, the difference is in the fact that a college can have a lot of degrees offered and a program is the sole offer in itself. Your average public health academy will give you the choice of any of the primary focus areas for public health.

In contrast, a program up for accreditation need not offer more than one degree. This does not mean that you cannot have a concentration in a program: indeed, a lot of them have more than one on offer. The college is also required to provide a doctorate level course.

Once you have enrolled in a CEPH-accredited program or school, you can rest assured of receiving a well-rounded public health education. If you are in public health, you can choose to specialize in any of the following: Behavioral Sciences, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Health Services Administration, and Biostatics. And if you do desire to move beyond the masters, you can do it with the doctor's level studies in these accredited institutions.

Accredited schools can provide assistance in transferring credits between institutions, or during admission to advanced degrees. This is through the general acceptance of credits between accredited institutions, especially when the student's performance has been satisfactory and the credits to be transferred are fitting to the receiving institutions. Once everything has been accomplished, the student can take the Public Health Certification test.

Some of the best jobs in the field are also given only to those who have masters in public health diplomas from accredited programs or colleges. Governmental organizations for public health also make much of CEPH-accredited degrees. Furthermore, with an accredited institution, you get only the best support from the institution's administration.
