Rome Holidays:Visit Rome for the Perfect Break

By John Roney

Known as the Eternal City, Rome is the perfect destination for a romantic break or maybe even a honeymoon. The city offers a wide range of activities for those who love to rekindle the romance. For instance, why not take a horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets of Rome, stopping only to indulge yourselves in some aphrodisiacal treats, such as delicious handmade chocolates. Alternatively after the sun sets, why not treat yourselves to a serenaded, candlelit dinner along the famous Tiber. As the capital of Italy, Rome has so much to offer a couple who are looking to make their city break a special one.

But Rome has many other delightful things to offer as well as romance. Filled to the brim with history and religion, and spectacular reminders of the immensely powerful Roman Empire, Rome can be the perfect place if you wish to take your family away for a lesson in European cultures. You can whisk your loved ones away to visit Vatican City, the home of the Pope and explore the wonders of its museum whilst you're there. Another place that must be visited, purely for the wow-factor, is the Colosseum; you and your loved ones will be extremely in awe when you look at its marvellous construction. History tells us that, to please and entertain the public, ancient Emperors would hold a variety of games within the Colosseum. More famously, it was used to hold outrageously ferocious fights to the death between gladiators and sometimes between gladiators and wild exotic animals. The magnificence of the Colosseum means that it must be visited during any trips to Rome.

The Vatican Museums are situated near the basilica and houses precious artistic works of a variety of artists from the past and the present. It is impossible to visit all the galleries housed inside the Museum, in a day. An impressive and majestic array of statues, busts, tapestries, early icons, Renaissance paintings and Egyptian artifacts overwhelm a visitor. The splendidly designed Museum structure has a double-helix spiral staircase that is a prelude to the unending treasures exhibited inside. The Sistine Chapel in the Vatican Museum is an important place to be visited inside the Museum. The frescoed ceiling of the chapel speaks volumes on the exceptional genius of Michelangelo, who created it. The Fresco portrays about 300 figures, from the pages of the Book of Genesis. The most popular painting of the creation of Adam, which depicts Almighty touching the finger of the first man on earth, Adam is a marvellous sight. The Scene of the last judgment, from the Book of Revelations is depicted on the wall of the Chapel.

But no trips to Rome can be complete without experiencing true Italian food, arguably the best food in the world. Famous for its sheer volume of restaurants and pizzerias (over 1,000), Rome offers a huge range of freshly made food varying from seafood to pasta and from succulent meat to international cuisine. And of course, who can forget about those famous Italian desserts. For those who are up for trying new things, why not step into a local cafe and ask for a portion of tiramisu. However, for those who tend to stick with what they know, there is something to be said for their gelato (Italian ice cream). When it comes to food in Rome, there is something for everyone; even the fussiest of us.

Whether you are intending to visit Rome as a couple, as a family or even as a group, there are many companies that are able to provide package deals for you to make your break perfect. You can have the freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want as these deals can be tailored to suit your needs. After all, "when in Rome..." Grab the chance to go on a Rome Holidays.
