Still An Excellent Product - Purple Netbook Review

By Riley Perez

Four stars only for the single speaker, but it is a reliable Toshiba any way. I bought this netbook for my teen daughter after looking extensively at local stores.

We don't have one negative thing to say. It was everything we wanted and then some! It fits quite nicely in my backpack. It's light enough and small enough that I hardly know it's even there.

Unlike others who have noted sticky keys, I have had no problems at all with the keyboard. The touchpad is a bit oversensitive, but overall it is not too bad and I don't get annoyed when I use it.

As for myself I bought this for school, and it has met all of my expectations so far no complaints. I wasn't sure about this netbook after reading some "so-so" reviews, but I have to say this little netbook is a handy gadget to have around. A little slow but that's what I expected. There is nothing that impedes my usage. I am extremely happy with my purchase, and you just can't beat the value for the money anywhere. I highly recommend this netbook! Hopefully Amazon will process a return. I saw nothing in Amazon's description which indicated that there are two models, but if you check Toshiba's site, you will see one model with a "(D3)" appended, and one without.

I do need to learn how to use Windows 7 as I am coming from XP.I like the size and how it functions, it is also easy to handle and setup for use. I just wanted a small computer to take on trips and down to the local coffee shop. I had no problems setting it up (although I deleted several unwanted programs that were pre-installed - Norton for example, went with a better security package) which, including configuration took less than 30 minutes. I did install 2g memory right off the bat. This solves the installation hang-up, as well as resolving the driver issue (11.04 now recognizes the driver without a problem). It is somewhat time-consuming, but well worth it.

I bought this thinking that it would be of minimal, targeted use - maybe travel. Netbooks have got a bad rap.

Plus it has 3 USB ports. Most netbooks have two. For faster performance, the user can uninstall the extraneous packaged programs (if you know what you're doing) and install 2GB of DDR3. The Toshiba NB505-N508BL netbook actually looks better than I expected based on the pictures, and I like the rubberized outside, which helps in gripping the netbook and doesn't capture fingerprints like other netbooks' glossy covers. I am glad that I got it. As long as you don't ask it to do what it wasn't designed to do, it works very well.
